About the Defense Logistics Agency

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is an agency within the Department of Defense. It provides logistics support worldwide to the military services and the combatant commands, in peacetime and in wartime. It also supports other parts of the Defense Department, certain other federal agencies, foreign governments, and international organizations when authorized.

Much of the work involves buying, storing, and moving the goods that military units use, including spare parts, fuel, food, clothing, and medical supplies. Common occupations include contracting and procurement, supply and inventory management, logistics management, warehouse and distribution work, quality assurance, and the engineering, finance, and information technology roles that support them.

The agency's work is carried out at sites in several states, among them California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
