Summary

This job is for a semi-skilled laborer at Danville State Hospital, where you'll help maintain buildings, landscapes, and grounds through tasks like cleaning, mowing lawns, and assisting with minor repairs in areas such as carpentry or plumbing.

Requirements

As a Semi-Skilled Laborer, your role will encompass a variety of responsibilities that support the work of skilled tradespeople in the construction and upkeep of diverse buildings, landscapes, and public infrastructure projects. You may find yourself working independently, assisting a qualified tradesperson, or leading a small team of laborers engaged in routine tasks. Your responsibilities will include ensuring that buildings and their surroundings are kept clean and orderly, performing landscaping tasks such as mowing lawns and caring for shrubs and trees, and executing minor carpentry, plumbing, roofing, or electrical work as needed. Additionally, you will be expected to utilize and maintain the necessary tools associated with these trades. Throughout your work, you will operate under the direct oversight of the Trades Foreman or a designated supervisor, receiving technical guidance from the trades staff when the supervisor is unavailable.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Limited Term, Full-time employment (up to 6 months)
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Schedule may change based on operational need.
  • This position may require overtime.
  • Free parking is available.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Condition of Employment:

  • You must be in possession of a current driver's license which is not under suspension or equivalent.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
